Our bread slicers at a glance
Not just for slicing bread
It's nearly impossible to find someone who doesn't know and love the bread slicer! And everyone knows what it does: Slice bread. Isn't that true? Bread slicers have a very long and rich history. Without a doubt, they were designed to slice bread quickly and easily. But like many other appliances, bread slicers have evolved and are no longer just for slicing bread. Food slicers, multi-purpose slicers or cutting machines, as they are now called, can do much more than just slice bread. They can also be used to cut sausages, cheese, fruit and vegetables to the desired thickness. Almost anything is possible – only "non-foods", frozen foods, packaged foods and bones should be avoided.
Designs of our bread slicers
Which bread slicer is suitable for you or your own needs should be clarified before buying the device. The selection is huge and often confusing. Therefore, you should think carefully about what the bread slicer has to be able to do before buying one. Do you want to cut bread and/or ham, are you a student or are you buying one for your family, are you right- or left-handed, will the appliance be used frequently or rather rarely? You can read up on the different designs of our bread slicers here.
When space in the kitchen is at a premium, bread slicers with a straight or flat food holding plate often save a few centimetres. In contrast to the inclined version, a straight food holding plate requires that the food be pushed or shoved towards the circular blade with a little more force.
If the food is to slide towards the circular blade on its own without being pushed, an inclined bread slicer is the right choice. The inclined position enables cutting without much effort and an optimal cutting position.
The best option when you want to serve freshly cut food immediately. Just place a plate or serving platter underneath and the food can be served directly on it. Convenient, easy and quick cleaning is another benefit.
Folding bread slicers are the absolute best choice for all those who don’t have a lot of space in the kitchen or comparably little storage space.
With a maximum width of only 10.5 cm when folded, these bread slicers are particularly space-saving and can be stored in almost any cupboard. Thanks to the removable parts, such as the divisible carriage, the bread slicers always remain complete, even when folded.
In contrast to bread slicers with a right-handed slicing guidance, bread slicers with a left-handed slicing guidance use the left hand to guide the food. This is an advantage not only - but especially for left-handers. Nevertheless, bread slicers with left-handed slicing guidance are not only bread slicers for left-handers. Although it is practical for them to retain their usual hand grips, these bread slicers are of course also suitable for right-handers.
No power required, particularly low-maintenance, smooth-running – that’s ritterwerk's hand-operated bread slicers in a nutshell. On top of that, economical cutting experiences are introduced into the kitchen when you opt for a manual bread slicer.
By using your own muscle power, you are independent of any power source and can cut wherever you like.

Different circular blades for our bread slicers
ritter offers various circular blades for different slicing properties and the perfect cut. Because the slicing result is not only determined by the tool itself, it also depends to a large extent on the slice, the shape and the composition of the circular blade.

Frequently asked questions about our bread slicers
Do you have questions about our bread slicers? Here we have listed some of the frequently asked questions, together with the corresponding answers. If your question is not included or not yet sufficiently answered, we will be happy to help you.
Depending on the requirements, each bread slicer has its own special features and qualities.
Clean your bread slicer regularly so that no perishable residues build up. To maintain the stainless surface, the rotary circular blade must also be cleaned regularly. Remove the rotary circular blade and all removable parts of the bread slicer and wipe them, as well as the housing, with a damp cloth. From time to time, thoroughly clean all removable parts, including the rotary circular blade, with warm water. After cleaning, grease the gear wheel on the rotary circular blade with a little Vaseline or the special ritter maintenance grease.
We do not recommend cutting frozen food, because our machines are not designed for it.
The materials we use are as varied as the bread slicers themselves and therefore include of various parts of steel, stainless steel, aluminium, high-quality plastic and moulded rubber parts. You will find detailed information on the materials used in the respective product descriptions of the machines.
For our electric bread slicers without electronic circular blade speed control, the value is in the range of approx. 70-90 revolutions/minute. The situation is different for appliances with electronic circular blade speed control, because the speed can be reduced or adjusted individually, depending on the food to be sliced.
It is not possible to resharpen the circular blades. Regrinding or sharpening wears down the hardened surface of the circular blade and makes it go blunt more quickly.
All circular blades of our bread slicers can be removed and replaced by yourself. There are different circular blade locks depending on the model.
Bayonet quick-acting lock: The circular circular blade lock can be opened by flipping it open and turning it clockwise. You can then remove it and the rotary circular blade by taking hold of it at the centre of rotation and taking it out.
Bayonet lock: You can open this circular blade lock by turning it clockwise and then removing it.
Screw cap: The screw lock is opened with the help of a key located behind the circular blade cover.
Coin-operated closure: Insert a suitable coin (2, 1 or 0.50 Euro coin) into the circular blade lock and turn it clockwise to open the coin lock quickly and easily.
When buying a (new) circular blade, always make sure that the colour of the plastic gear is correct so that you do not accidentally choose a circular blade that does not match your bread slicer.
Every rotary circular blade is removable for easy and thorough cleaning. You can read up on how to open the different circular blade locks in the section "Is it possible to replace the circular blades of the bread slicer?".
In the case of some of our bread slicers, individual components still have to be assembled or inserted, such as the food collecting tray or the slicing carriage.
Calculated from the date of purchase and in accordance with the EU warranty guidelines, ritter provides a 2-year manufacturer's warranty for all bread slicers. All defects that are demonstrably due to manufacturing or material faults will be repaired by us free of charge within the warranty period. However, we will assess whether we will replace or repair the appliance in whole or in part.
Yes, bacon as well as cheese, sausage, vegetables and bread can be cut with the ritter bread slicers.

A smooth ham- and sausage circular blade is available for every ritter bread slicer.
We do not recommend putting any parts of the bread slicer in the dishwasher. We recommend cleaning the bread slicer as follows:
After every use, wipe the housing and all removable parts, including the rotary circular blade, with a damp cloth.
From time to time, thoroughly clean all removable parts, including the rotary circular blade, with warm water. It is best to clean the housing behind the circular blade with a dry cloth or brush. Caution: Do not use abrasive cleaning agents, sponges with rough surfaces or hard brushes.
On smooth surfaces, our devices are non-slip according to the standard. However, there are also rubber feet on the underside of each of our bread slicers. For a firm grip, however, these must always be free of grease and crumbs. We therefore recommend that you clean the rubber feet regularly.
A standard diameter of 17 cm has proven itself for household use. If the diameter was larger, additional safety regulations would have to be observed.
If the shape of the old circular blade and the colour of the old gear match the shape and colour of the new circular blade, then the circular blade should fit on the bread slicer.
To be absolutely sure, feel free to contact our in-house customer and repair service.
How long a circular blade stays sharp depends on several things: Do you often cut hard food or rather soft food? How is the bread slicer used? And how do you cut with it? These are all aspects that influence the sharpness of the circular blade. For this reason, our circular blades are inductively hardened in the cutting area and, compared to unhardened circular blades, the service life is many times longer as a result! It is not possible to sharpen the circular blades!
Depending on the product category, the prices for bread slicers vary. However, you can choose between the categories Premium, Comfort, Economy and Manual home appliances.
The higher the power (rating on the type plate) of the appliance and the longer the operating time, the higher the electricity consumption – that is the theory, but it is not possible to make an exact statement here. For some years now, we have been installing Eco motors in most of our electric bread slicers, which are 20 % more efficient than the previous motor. Read more about this in the Eco Motor section.
Do not use the bread slicer to cut frozen food, bones, food with large cores, roasts in the net or food with packaging. Our bread slicers are not designed for that. Only cut foods such as bread, sausage, cheese or also fruit and vegetables with our bread slicers.
Folding bread slicers can be folded up after use to save space and stored away conveniently. Even during use, they take up very little space on the counter top. So if you don't have much space in the kitchen, a folding bread slicer is the perfect choice.
In our company, "Eco" stands for high performance at low consumption.
Since the conversion of our bread slicers to a new ECO motor with ball bearings, the machines are 20 % more economical than the previous model and yet 50 % more powerful.
